I’m Kenny McSwain, the founder and driving force behind this endeavor, and I’m honored to share my story with you.
My journey into service began in my childhood, fueled by a deep-rooted desire to make a difference. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be a firefighter. Spending countless hours at the firehouse, absorbing knowledge from the brave men and women who served, I cultivated a passion for serving others that would shape my life’s path.
Joining the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department in 1990 marked the beginning of a fulfilling career dedicated to safeguarding our communities. Climbing the ranks swiftly, I retired after 23 years of service, having served as an Assistant Fire Chief and Commander of the Marine Division, where I obtained my U.S. Coast Guard Captains License.
Yet, my journey didn’t end with retirement. My fascination with technology and innovation led me to explore the world of drones. Obtaining my FAA Part 107 commercial drone pilot license, I immersed myself in the cutting-edge technology that has the potential to revolutionize various industries.
Moreover, my love for boating, ignited during my firefighting days, further fueled my passion for the water. Becoming a proficient captain and acquiring my own vessel in 2006, I embraced the opportunity to combine my passions for serving, flying drones, and boating to address a critical need in our community.
At Rudder and Compass Inc., we recognize the importance of equipping our youth with essential skills and knowledge to thrive in an ever-evolving world. Our mission is to provide comprehensive SUAS drone training and Maritime water safety education to middle and high school students.
Through our programs, students gain hands-on experience in flying drones while exploring the diverse industries where drones are utilized. Armed with the FAA Part 107 License, they are prepared for lucrative careers as commercial drone pilots, empowering them to pursue entrepreneurship or employment opportunities in this burgeoning field.
Additionally, our focus on Maritime water safety aims to address the alarming statistics surrounding boating accidents, particularly among youth. By emphasizing the importance of safety measures and providing rigorous training, we aim to reduce accidents and save lives.
